It's mostly just comedies and movie musicals

“If, however, your feelings have changed, I will have to tell you: you have bewitched me, body and soul, and I love--I love--I love you. I never wish to be parted from you from this day on.”

Pride and Prejudice

My mom is an Austenite, through and through. Whenever she doesn’t know what she wants to watch, she quickly decides on “Pride and Prejudice.” She has multiple copies of this film in physical and digital media. I used to hate this film because it was boring to me. But once I got older, elongated my attention span and exposed myself to more classical literature, I started to appreciate the incredible storytelling of Jane Austen and the production of the 2005 film.

The five Bennet sisters’ lives are changed when Mr. Bingley and his best friend Mr. Darcy arrives in town. With only daughters and no sons to inherit their home, Mrs. Bennet becomes obsessed with marrying off her daughters. Elizabeth Bennet, played by a young Kiera Knightly, begins a tumultuous acquaintance with Mr. Darcy who can’t help but be intrigued, disgusted and in love with Elizabeth. Elizabeth continues to judge Mr. Darcy but can’t stop thinking of him.

My dad loves this movie, not for the story, but for the cinematography. He says every frame is like a live renaissance painting. I’d have to agree.
